Performance Course

Our Level 6 Performers Course is a multifaceted three year course. This is the perfect way for a Dancer to transition into the Dance Industry. Whether you are a Classical, Contemporary or Jazz Specialist. KS Dance will take your technique and performance skill to a professional level.

Students graduate with a Level 6 Diploma in Professional Dance, validated by Trinity College London. The option to further study towards a DDE, Level 4 Teaching qualification, awarded by the ISTD  in Ballet, Modern & Tap is available to all. The Level 6 Diploma in Professional Dance can later be increased to a BA (hons) at Middlesex University whilst majoring at KS Dance in Ballet, Jazz and or Contemporary  under the training of World Class Teachers, Performers and Choreographers at KS Dance.

Students major and minor in the 3 main genre; Ballet, Jazz and Contemporary with performance opportunities and choreographic presentations throughout the year, Students can showcase their talents and gain the exposure they need to enter the Dance Industry. Dancers are trained in Classical Ballet and many differing Jazz styles, as well as exploring a variety of Contemporary Techniques from a faculty of highly qualified Teachers, Guest Teachers and Mentors.

Students can also expect Strength and Conditioning Training from our Strength Coach and Team to develop flexibility, stability and strength.

Level 6 Diploma in Professional Dance

ASSESSMENT GUIDELINES

  • Monthly in house assessment in major and minor dance genres
  • Twice yearly moderation of chosen practical dance genres in studio by Trinity College
  • Assessment of touring performance with Allegrodance Company  by Trinity College
  • Assessment of third year students within graduate performance at appointed theatre by Trinity  College

IPS – INTEGRATED PROFESSIONAL STUDIES – in the following topics ie lectures and tests

 

  • Nutrition and hydration
  • Basic anatomy and physiology
  • Risk assessments for the Allegrodance Touring Company
  • Budgeting for auditions and life as a dancer
  • Tax, PAYE and being self employed
  • Equity and agents

PROJECT WORK – to include

  • Choreography and Production
  • Costume design
  • Set and lighting design
  • Contextual projects

Professional Dance Training gives formal recognition to the skills, knowledge and understanding acquired by dance students in their training for employment as professional dancers  through Trinity’s International Examinations Board. This Diploma in Dance has been recognised by the Department of Education and Employment as Level 6 within the National Qualifications framework. The Diploma is available to all dancers who study on the 3 Year Performers Course at KS Dance.

  • Curiosity, intelligence, mental and physical capabilities required to complete the course

Students are assessed at the end of the ‘Autumn’ and ‘Summer Term’ in college and in ‘Spring Term’ through the school production  and Allegrodance Touring Company.

Conversion of the Diploma to BA (Hons) Professional Practice

The Diploma is an APL route onto some MA programmes, including the MA Professional Practice at Middlesex University. However students may first wish to acquire a more academically oriented qualification at the same level.

Therefore students who have successfully completed their Diploma, can apply to Middlesex University to take the BA conversion course. The BA (Hons) Professional Practice (BAPP) has been created especially for students who have graduated from Trinity validated Providers. The course gives participants the opportunity to convert their diploma to a BA (Hons) while carrying on their professional activities. Taken over one year, participants will be required to compile a professional portfolio and undertake a practice-based project.

Dancer's Course

Today’s dancer must be versatile and multi talented to meet the expectations of choreographers in a constantly changing theatrical environment. The Level 6  Performers course training, not only concentrates on strengthening and further developing excellent technique, but works on performance skills, audition technique whilst maintaining a strong classical base which is essential for any dance discipline. Students are also individually coached in Vocal Studies including a vast repertoire from today’s current Musicals.
Students receive one on one support when going on to audition for work following the 3 year course. We invite agencies and employers to view open days and audition classes and castings held at the school to directly link our students with the industry. Students have attained employment in Classical Ballet Companies Worldwide, Musicals on the West End and Broadway as well as television contracts, cruise ships and Cirque du Soleil.

 

The students on the course are assessed monthly and termly which goes towards their end of term report which covers the students progression, strengths and areas for improvement. All students become part of The Allegrodance Touring Company which tours in the spring term. As students move through their training they progress within Allegrodance company from Understudy to Lead Roles.
