Scholarships and Competitions

Once again Scholarships and Competitions Season is upon us and KS Dance kicked off with The Cyril Beaumont Awards. This year the event was attended by many Guests including our School Patrons and many School Governors. Our adjudicators for 2018 were Maureen Christie, an esteemed Cecchetti Examiner and Practitioner of the method as well as Ollie Rydout, Rehearsal Director and Ballet Master at Scottish Ballet.

This year saw a standard of Dancing as high as ever with some outstanding and consistent performances. The Award consists of one Ballet Class set by Miss Gillian Hurst accompanied by the wonderful music of Mr John Taggart. KS Dance is fortunate to have such talent on its faculty to continue the legacy of the Award and the memory Cyril Beaumont.

Although this class is a competition, the professionalism and artistry of the Students was clear and obvious. Such classes lend themselves to students displaying their character and sharing their thoughts and dreams through movement. Needless to say the entertainment factor and camaraderie was certainly present this year.

Scholarship

This year the competition was closely matched with every single Dancer displaying artistry, control, athleticism and elegance. The class work was difficult yet gave each Dancer the opportunity to perform to their maximum and demonstrate their own flare.

This year’s Winner was Chloe Horton (18) of Second Year. Runner Up was Paige Curzon (17) also from Second Year. “Most Promising Male” was awarded to Stuart Strongman (18) of Second Year. The Musicality Award went to Elliot Adams (17) and Commendations were received by Ella Matthews (17) and Danielle Burgess (19), all three of which are also in their Second Year of School.

Upcoming Events, Scholarships and Competitions

On Sunday 25th November KS Dance will be travelling to London to perform the original piece “Shame on Me” that was performed at CYD? in September at The Shaw Theatre as part of the CDMT College Showcase.

The Following week KS Dance will be taking a considerable number of entries to the Cecchetti Classical Ballet Competitions at Sadler’s Wells, London. Students will take part in a competition class and perform Classical Variations that will be adjudicated by a Star panel of judges.

Once again KS Dance will be returning to Sadler’s Wells less than two weeks later as 3 Dancers have been selected to represent KS Dance at Classical Semi-Finals of BBC Young Dancer 2019.

Our Final Friday of the Winter term will also play host to our annual Christmas Choreography Competition. This year the competition will, once again, be judged by Mr David Needham.
