“La Sylphide… A Classic”
Kate Simmons and her team are thrilled to begin rehearsals again for this wonderful classical ballet which was originally choreographed by Filippo Taglioni in 1832 and a second version was choreographed in 1836 by August Bournonville which some may be more familiar with.
The story of La Sylphide involves a young Scotsman James, who is about to marry his fiancée Effie. The ballet tells the story of an impossible love between a human and an ethereal Sylph. James sees a Sylph appear at the window on the morning of his wedding, she takes the wedding ring, places it on his finger and persuades him to follow her deep into the forest where she lives. James’s friend Gurn discovers James with the magical creature and attempts to expose them, but the Sylph vanishes into thin air before he gets the chance.
La Sylphide is a captivating and fascinating ballet that displays mans inherent temptation for the unknown, leading sometimes to a lonely and dangerous life.
This is a ballet that appeals to both audiences and dancers. A real must see!
At KS Dance we always love to give our audience a full evening of dance that offers something for the whole family to enjoy.
Our Junior dancers will also be taking to the stage, celebrating 100 years of Cechetti, this presentation of his work will be danced by our Grade 4 students up to Advanced 1 level.
